Those still eager to win a waterfowl spot on a Brazos River Authority reservoir have one more drawing opportunity. The Lake Limestone office will hold a drawing at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2019 at its office located at 20226 Sterling Robertson Dam Road in Thornton. Lake Limestone, located on the upper Navasota River, is a popular waterfowl hunting area, Davy Moore, Lake Limestone reservoir manager, has said.
Each year, the BRA permits an allotted number of individuals to partake in waterfowl hunting on its reservoirs across the Brazos River basin. Hunting is permitted at BRA reservoirs only during duck season.
Interested hunters must be present at the lake office to participate in the drawing for one of the 29 available sites at the reservoir. Last season, more than 70 hunters participated in the drawing. A $200 permit fee is due at the time of the drawing for those selected and hunters must be at least 18 years old, have a valid 2019-2020 Texas hunting license, and the license must have the Texas Duck Stamp Endorsement and the current federal Waterfowl Stamp.
Selected hunters must provide their own blind and stick to their specified location.
The BRA’s other two reservoirs - Possum Kingdom Lake in Palo Pinto County and Lake Granbury, an hour southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth – each have already had their drawing. Roughly 80 people attended the drawing at Lake Granbury, securing all of the 15 available spots.
Possum Kingdom Lake however still had 21 spots available as of Aug. 23, 2019 as the drawing drew few people.
