Dates set for drawings of BRA’s waterfowl hunting sites

Dates set for drawings of BRA’s waterfowl hunting sites

The Brazos River Authority has set the 2022 dates for its annual drawings for designated waterfowl hunting blind locations on its three reservoirs. Those wanting to secure a location for waterfowl hunting this fall at one of the Brazos River Authority reservoirs will have the opportunity to enter drawings for hunting blind sites.

The BRA provides the hunting site locations, but the hunters are responsible for providing their own blind. Hunting is only allowed at designated locations on the lake and all hunters are required to stay within 20 feet of the designated area while hunting.

Hunters must be at least 18 years old, have a valid 2022-2023 Texas hunting license, and the license must have the Texas Duck Stamp Endorsement and the current federal Waterfowl Stamp. One entry is allowed per person. The $200 permit fee is due at the time of the drawing for those selected.

Although the exact number of blind locations will not be known until closer to the draw date, each lake is reporting what they have at this time. Possum Kingdom Lake has 30 locations available. Lake Granbury has 15 blind sites available, but drought conditions can reduce that number. Lake Limestone has approximately 29 locations available.

According to Lake Granbury Reservoir Manager Connie Tucker, drawings usually take 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.

“During the selection process, we update those still waiting with the location of the blinds that have been chosen, as some people prefer specific areas of the lake. We also draw two alternates in case one of the drawn people change their mind,” Tucker added.

The 2022 drawing dates are:

  • Possum Kingdom Lake - 8 a.m.  Aug. 20, 2022, at the PK Lake office, 301 Observation Point Road in Graford. Drawings start at 8 a.m., so you’ll need to be there earlier to register. Check/Money Order/Debit or Credit Cards are accepted.
  • Lake Granbury - 8 a.m.  Aug. 26, 2022, at the Lake Granbury office, 4552 Mambrino Highway in Granbury. Doors open at 8 a.m. to begin registering. Registration is cut off at 8:30 when the drawing begins. Check/Money Order/Debit or Credit Cards are accepted.
  • Lake Limestone - 8:30 a.m. Aug. 26, 2022, at the Lake Limestone office, 20226 Sterling Robertson Dam Road in Thornton. Doors open at 8 a.m. to begin registering. The first draw will start at 8:30 a.m. Check or Money Order only is accepted.

Hunters must be present at the Lake Office during the drawing to win a spot. Cash will not be accepted at any location.
