Open Records Request
The Brazos River Authority website is a great resource to answer many questions you may have about
the BRA organization and its services. If you are having trouble finding answers to your questions
or you're looking for more detailed information, it may be available from the BRA through an Open Records Request.
The Texas Public Information Act gives you the right to inspect or copy government records. You may receive
information from the Brazos River Authority in one of the following ways:
-
You may mail a request to:
Attn: Public Information Officer
4600 Cobbs Drive
Waco, Texas 76710
-
You may visit the BRA's Central Office in Waco to inspect the records at no charge to you.
Visits to inspect information must be arranged in advance. Please call (254) 761-3103 for more information.
-
You may submit an electronic Open Records Request by submitting the form below.
-
You may submit a request to open.records@brazos.org.
Once your request is received, the BRA will process it in accordance with the Public Information Act, Government Code, Chapter 552 (the Act). Information responsive to the request will be promptly provided, unless the BRA believes the information is excepted from public disclosure pursuant to the Act.
If the BRA believes the requested information is excepted from public disclosure and may only be withheld if authorized by the Texas Attorney General, then by the 10th business day after receiving your written request, the BRA must:
-
Request an Attorney General Letter Decision as to whether the requested information is excepted from public disclosure and state which exceptions apply.
-
Notify you of the referral to the Attorney General.
-
Notify third parties if the request involves their proprietary information.
In addition, BRA’s arguments as to why it believes the requested information is excepted from public disclosure must be sent to the Texas Attorney General by the 15th business day after receiving your written request. The Attorney General will then review and make a determination as to whether the exception(s) apply.
Fees related to open records requests are calculated in accordance with the Act and guidelines prescribed by the Office
of the Attorney General. If it is anticipated that the charges will exceed $40, the BRA will provide a written estimate
prior to fulfilling the request. Requests resulting in charges in excess of $100 are due and payable prior to the release
of the information.
