Upper Brazos Basin

• September 2: LUBBOCK – First Friday Art Trail, 6 – 9 p.m. at The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, 511 Ave. K, Lubbock
  Come out for live music, food trucks, and art from local, national, and international artists! FFAT is a free, self-guided art tour held in the Lubbock Cultural District in partnership with a variety of art centers, museums, galleries, and businesses. Learn more about FFAT here. • September 2, 3, 4, 5: GRANBURY – Granbury Square Labor Day Weekend Celebration, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. at Granbury Square, 201 E. Pearl St., Granbury
  The annual Sidewalk Sale on the Square, Labor Day Festival, and Lighted Boat Parade are three enjoyable family festivals that are being sponsored by the Historic Granbury Merchants Association. The festival will take place on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, September 2 - 5 promising fun for both tourists and locals and a terrific way to celebrate the end of summer and welcome fall! •  September 3: ABILENE – Lake Hike, 9 – 11 a.m. at Abilene State Park, 150 Park Road 32, Tuscola 
  Join the Big Country Master Naturalists for a 5-mile hike around Lake Abilene. To attend, you'll need an entrance permit from the park headquarters. Wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring plenty of water. Learn more about the event here. 
• September 3: GRANBURY – First Saturday Bird Walk, 7 – 9 a.m. at Acton Nature Center, 6500 Smoky Hill Court, Granbury
  This monthly tour is directed by Dr. Billy Teels, who earned a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology from Mississippi State University and worked as a biologist for 30 years. Now retired, Dr. Teels leads a monthly bird walk through the town of Granbury. Bring your binoculars and plenty of water! For more information, click here.
• September 24: ABILENE – Star Party, 8 – 10 p.m. at Abilene State Park, 150 Park Road 32, Tuscola
  Join the Big Country Master Naturalists for a night of stargazing. The meeting will take place at the soccer field, across from the swimming pool. Red lights only, please, so as not to interfere with the night vision of other guests. Entrance fees will be waived for this event. • September 24: CLEBURNE – Walk for Life, 8 – 11 a.m. at Hulen Park Heritage Pavilion, 301 W. Westhill Drive, Cleburne
  The Walk for Life is a 2-mile walk that benefits the lifesaving work of Cleburne Pregnancy Center. It is a fun event for the entire family. Dogs are welcome on a leash. There will be donuts and coffee, games, face painting, balloons, door prizes, and more. The event is free, but you must register to walk. For more information, click here. 

Central Brazos Basin

• September 2: WEST – WestFest – West Fair and Rodeo Assn. – South Main Street

• September 3:  WACO - Waco Downtown Farmers Market – Every Saturday - 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. 500 Washington Ave.
  The Waco Downtown Farmers Market brings in locally grown and produced goods every Saturday to support local farmers and artisans and to enrich the culture of the community. Come join the fun!
• September 3: KILLEEN – Touchdown in Downtown Killeen, 6 – 10 p.m., at Downtown Killeen, E. Avenue D & Gray Street, Killeen

  Walk where the dinosaurs once roamed and hear the park rangers retell the story of how the dinosaur tracked across Dinosaur Valley State Park! The meeting will take place at the roped-off area at the Main Track Site. Bring your questions about the park, dinosaurs, and more. The event is free with park admission. • September 4, 11,18, 25: WHITNEY – Bird Sleuths of the Two Bridges Trail, 9 – 10 am at Lake Whitney State Park, 433 FM 1244, Whitney
  Explore the 1-mile trail with a master naturalist as you become a bird sleuth. You may learn to identify birds, not only by sight but by sound, using an app on your phone. Bring your binoculars if you have them. Beginner sets are available upon request for the first 11 requests. Group sizes will be limited to 15 to allow all to fit the trail space and hear the speaker. • September 5: WACO - Sorghum Festival, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Homestead Craft Village, 608 Dry Creek Road
  Join us for a free Labor Day weekend tradition. Watch the entire process of making sweet sorghum syrup—from pressing the raw cane using a horse-powered mill to cooking the juice into a rich, golden brown syrup. • September 10: WHITNEY – Stars Party in the Park, 8 p.m. at Lake Whitney State Park, 433 FM 1244, Whitney
  Enjoy an evening walk across the galaxy using star maps, a laser pointer, binoculars, and a telescope. Retired National Park Ranger Larry Smith will guide you through the planets, moon, and stars. Bring your camp chairs if you would like, or you may use the metal picnic tables spaced out in the area. Park entry permits are required on all vehicles.   Ever wondered how close the planets are to each other? Join the fun as you take a walk through a scale model of our solar system. It will start at the Amphitheater at 8 p.m. and take the Solar System Walk to the Overflow Parking Lot where the Fort Worth Astronomical Society is holding a Star Party! • September 17: GLEN ROSE – Star Party, 9 p.m. at Dinosaur Valley State Park, 1629 Park Road 59, Glen Rose
  Celebrate the night sky and learn from real astronomers! Join the excitement with the Fort Worth Astronomical Society for an evening of celestial fun! You will observe planets, stars, and galaxies up close and with the help of knowledgeable astronomers.   The city of Temple Parks and Recreation and the Mayor's Fitness Council is thrilled to announce that they will be lighting Pepper Creek Trail! They would like you to join them for this unique and exciting opportunity to glow ride the trail at your own pace (This is not a race!). • September 30: WACO – Waco Cultural Arts Fest, 6 – 10 p.m. at Indian Spring Park and the Waco Convention Center, University Parks Drive, WacoThe Waco Cultural Arts Festival is free to all and features hands-on activities for all ages, along with visual art and entertainment both day and night. The festival features 50 artists and over 300 performers over three days. Poets, filmmakers, dancers, musicians, performers, and entertainers all have a turn during this eclectic festival. • September 3: SAN FELIPE – Nature Walk, 10 – 11 a.m. at Stephen F. Austin State Park Nature Center, 220 2nd Street, San Felipe
  Join the fun as volunteer Jack Philley takes you on a short hike to learn about the native plants that inhabit the three ecozones present at Stephen F. Austin State Park. It's an easy hike that is appropriate for people of all ages. No reservation is necessary. Bring your water bottle and bug repellent, and wear closed-toe shoes. No pets are allowed at the event unless they are trained to be service animals. This event may be canceled for weather-related or other reasons. • September 3: CENTERVILLE – Movie Night, 8 – 10 p.m. at Fort Boggy State Park 4994 Highway 75 South, Centerville
  It's movie night at Fort Boggy! Come out to the park to enjoy a free viewing of Coco at the pavilion. Popcorn and water will be provided. There will be seating at the picnic tables in the pavilion, but you can also bring a blanket to sit on the ground. The event is free with paid park entrance. Space is limited to 50 guests. • September 4: NEEDVILLE – Birding Hike, 8 – 10 a.m. at Brazos Bend State Park, 21901 FM 762, Needville
  Brazos Bend State Park is home to over 300 species of birds: it's the perfect place to bird-watch all year round! Join the expedition at 8 a.m. in front of the 40-Acre Lake restrooms and go on a birding hike alongside park volunteer Jerry Carpenter. This trail is 1.2 miles long, relatively flat, graveled, and easily accessible for anyone that wants to join! Don't forget to bring your binoculars, field guides, and your water! • September 10: CENTERVILLE – Leave no Trace 10 – 11 a.m. at Fort Boggy State Park, 4994 Highway 75 South, Centerville
  Seven principles of leave no trace. What's this? Using the seven principles of Leave No Trace will preserve the parks and other outdoor areas for future generations. Come have fun learning about the principles through games and activities and become a steward of the environment. The program is free with paid park entrance.   How do the animals in the park get around at night? See a different side of Fort Boggy. They will take a short hike (1/2 mile) through the park and learn about the animals that come out at night. All ages are welcome. The meeting takes place at the Park Headquarters. Make sure you wear comfortable clothing that is appropriate for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring water and bug spray. • September 24: SUGAR LAND – Fall Fest, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Sugar Land Town Square, 2711 Plaza Drive, Sugar Land 
  Sugar Land's first in-person Fall Fest will feature music, food, dance, art, and fashion! There will be main stage performances and a variety of live music and cultural activities.
