Dates set for BRA's waterfowl hunting site drawings

Boat

Despite the lingering summer heat, fall is on the way and many Texas hunters are making plans for where they will hunt as migratory birds flock to the state. Those looking to secure a location for waterfowl hunting this fall at one of the Brazos River Authority reservoirs will have an opportunity to enter drawings for hunting blind sites later this summer at Possum Kingdom Lake, Lake Limestone and Lake Granbury.

Drawings at each of the BRA reservoirs are as follows:

  • Possum Kingdom, 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 at the PK Lake Office, 301 Observation Point Road in Graford.
  • Lake Limestone, 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at the Lake Limestone Office, 20226 Sterling Robertson Dam Road in Thornton.
  • Lake Granbury, 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at the Lake Granbury Office, 4552 Mambrino Highway in Granbury.

The BRA provides the hunting sites, but hunters are responsible for providing their own blinds. Hunting is only allowed in specified locations, and not in other areas at the reservoirs. All hunters are required to stay within 20 feet of the marked area while hunting. The sites may be shared by up to four people.

Hunting

All persons participating in the drawing must be at least 18 years old and have a valid 2017-2018 Texas hunting license. The license must have the Texas Duck Stamp Endorsement and also the current federal Waterfowl Stamp.

To be selected, participants must be present at the time of the drawing. One entry is allowed per person and one site per drawing. A $200 permit fee must be paid at the time of the drawing for those selected, and only cash or money orders are accepted.

During the drawing, those selected first will have first pick of hunting sites followed by others who are drawn in order.

If you have questions about the drawings, please call the lake office where you would like to hunt. The Lake Limestone number is 903-529-2141, the Lake Granbury number is 817-573-3212 and the Possum Kingdom number is 940-779-2321.
