Waterfowl hunting blind sites drawings scheduled
There are a few events that mark the official end of summer. For the family, it may be a Labor Day celebration. For kids, it’s shopping for back-to-school necessities. And, for avid hunters, it’s the annual BRA Waterfowl Hunting Blind sites permit drawing.
The BRA offers hunters the chance to enter a lottery-style drawing for one of 60 established hunting blind sites at the three BRA-owned reservoirs: Possum Kingdom Lake, Lake Granbury and Lake Limestone.
To be eligible, participants must be at least 18 years old and present at the day and time of the drawing for a chance to claim a permit site. Registration closes once the drawing begins. Those arriving late will not be included in the drawing. One entry is allowed per person, and one site is allowed per entry. Up to four people may share each site.
All participants must have a valid Texas hunting license with the Texas Duck Stamp Endorsement and the current federal Waterfowl Stamp. Up to four hunters may share a blind location. Everyone must have their names registered for the drawing no later than 8:30 a.m. on the drawing date to enter.
The dates and times for each of the reservoir’s drawings are:
-
Possum Kingdom Lake
August 23, 2024 - Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the drawing begins at 8:30 a.m. at the PK Lake Office, 301 Observation Point Road, Graford, Texas 76449
-
Lake Granbury
August 30, 2024 – Doors open at 8 a.m. and the drawing begins at 8:30 a.m. at the BRA Lake Granbury office, 4552 Mambrino Highway, Granbury, Texas 76048
-
Lake Limestone
August 30, 2024 – Doors open at 8 a.m. and the drawing begins at 8:30 a.m. at the BRA Lake Limestone office, 20226 Sterling Robertson Dam Road, Thornton, Texas 76687
At each drawing, the first name selected will have the first pick of the hunting sites, followed by the remaining registered hunters until all locations are filled. In the case that fewer entries are received than the number of available sites, the remaining sites will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
If selected, a $200 permit fee is required at the time of the drawing. Each location accepts checks/money orders payable to the BRA. Lakes Granbury and Possum Kingdom accept all debit/credit cards except AMEX.
The BRA provides hunting site locations for those selected during the drawing, but hunters are responsible for bringing their blinds. Hunting on the reservoirs is reserved for specified locations and is not permitted at any other BRA property that is not designated for waterfowl blinds. Hunters must always stay within 20 feet of their marked area while hunting, and firearms or projectiles are restricted outside the designated areas.
