The National Weather Service issues a flash flood warning to inform the public, emergency management, and other cooperating agencies that flash flooding is in progress, imminent, or highly likely.

It is important to know the difference between a flash flood watch and a flash flood warning. A flash flood watch is an initial announcement noting that weather conditions could cause flooding. A flood watch announcement is made to encourage citizens to prepare for possible flooding. Meanwhile, a flash flood warning means it’s time to take action.
