30-day public comment open for lake rules

The Brazos River Authority is taking public comment on proposed changes to the rules and regulations for its three water supply reservoirs and associated lands.

The public has 30 days, or until April 30, 2022, to submit comments on the draft proposal, which affects BRA-owned reservoirs and associated lands, including lakes Possum Kingdom, Granbury and Limestone.

After the public comment period has passed, BRA staff will evaluate all comments present the updated draft to the BRA Board of Directors for consideration and adoption.

Under the proposed regulations additions, new commercial facilities would require a public comment period and permit. The draft also includes a new requirement that commercial facilities maintain equipment to contain spills; establishes new provisions related to the protection of archeological/historical features; and changes the rule requiring watercraft to operate slowly within 50 feet of the shoreline, dock, swimming area, etc. to 100 feet.

The last time major revisions were made to the reservoirs’ rules and regulations was in 2014.
