Release Complete

The one-gate release from Possum Kingdom Lake's Morris Sheppard Dam was completed Friday, July 7, at 6:22 a.m. The current release of 400 cubic feet per second is expected to continue throughout the weekend and will be reevaluated early next week.

Lake Granbury, some 145 river miles downstream from Possum Kingdom Lake, is expected to fill to capacity with the release from PK. A release from the DeCordova Bend Dam is expected to begin over the weekend to pass the water flowing downstream. When this event is complete, both Possum Kingdom Lake and Lake Granbury will be at full capacity.

Be aware that though both reservoirs will be full, other areas of the Brazos River Basin remain under drought conditions. As a result, water supply from the Brazos River's mainstem systems (Lake Possum Kingdom, Granbury and Whitney) are expected to be utilized to meet supply water needs in other areas of the basin. With Texas' summer heat, evaporation will occur, and water supply utilization will cause lake levels to decline. For additional information, see the BRA's social media pages on Facebook and Twitter or email questions to information@brazos.org.
